Licenses overview
The installation and activation of the Board license is a part of the
software installation process. Two categories of licenses exist,
- the Stand-alone
license, which is installed on the client computer where Board
Client is installed. This license type enables Board to run
on a single computer only, one license per computer is needed.
This license is required for stand-alone architectures for
example for Board developers that need to work locally on
their PC.
- the Master
license (or Server
license) which is installed on the server where the Board
Server is installed, controls the users that connect to the
server.
User license profile
Five different levels of licenses exist, regardless of the stand-alone
or Master ones, each providing a different set of functionality:
- Developer:
this is the highest level license, it allows you to create
and edit Board databases a capsules without restrictions.
It is intended for Board administrators, developers and power
users.
- Power
User: this license provides unrestricted access to
Capsules both for navigation and for development purposes
but does not allow to access any database design feature.
This license is for power users that do not need to modify
the design of Board databases.
- User: this license provides
access to the Capsule environment and all navigation features
but does not allow to design or modify a Capsule; access to
the Capsule design mode is prohibited. It is intended
for users that only need to open existing Capsules, including
budgeting and simulation applications, that have been designed
for them by a user having a Developer or Power User license.
- Lite:
this license provides the same functions as the User license
with the exception that data-entry is prohibited. It is essentially
a ”read-only” license suitable for users that need to navigate
existing Capsules with reports, charts or any other data-presentation
object but who can't enter data.
- User
15: this license provides the same functions as the
User license but is limited to 15 days of use. Whenever a
user with this license logs in Board, a day will be deducted
from the totals day of use included in his/her license. No
day will be deducted for any subsequent login on the same
day. The day ends at 24:00 in the time zone in which the server
is located: the
first login after this time will result in the deduction of
another day of use from the license.
Each of the above user licenses types can be upgraded with the MS-Office Add-in license which allows
to use the Board Add-in for Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010.
Master license characteristics
The Master or Server license, has the following characteristics
Licensing mode
The licensing
mode determines how the server verifies the licenses of end users.
A Board
Server can adopt one only of the following two licensing modes
Concurrent
Users, meaning that the Board Server counts the number of
Board users that are logged on and allows only a given maximum
number of users to work simultaneously. For example a 50 concurrent
users license allows the definition of more than 50 user accounts
but only up to 50 users can work simultaneously. When the limit
is reached, if an additional user attempts to log-on, he receives
the error message "Too many users logged-on” and must wait
until one of the active users logs-off.
Named
users, meaning that the Board Server only allows defining
a number of user accounts equal to the number of purchased licenses.
Multidimensional Engine
Three
engine types exist,
R-Engine,
allows to manage InfoCubes which are tables residing into
an external relational database (refer to RDB InfoCubes
or ROLAP InfoCubes).
M-Engine,
allows to manage InfoCubes stored into Board's multidimensional
database.
Dual-Engine,
allows to handle both types of InfoCubes, relational and
multidimensional. This type of engine provides all capabilities
of the prior two.
Engine edition
The
engine edition can be either the standard 32-bit edition or the 64-bit
edition.
MS-Office
Can be of type
Office for all : allows to grant/deny
the use of the Board Add-ins for MS-Office to any user defined.
Named : allows to grant the use of
the Board Add-ins for MS-Office to a fixed number of users (nominated
users).
